So it turns out Bella is allergic to Penicillin. If you remember my post from Mother's Day about sick kids, Bella was getting over a virus and double ear infections. Of course the doctor prescribed the old standby, Amoxicilin which is made with Penicillin. This morning Bella had her last dose and immediately broke out in a full body rash from head to toe. I of course wondered if it was the sunscreen from the weekend, the bunches of strawberries she has been eating and yes maybe the antibiotic.
We took her in to be looked at by her pediatrician and they put in place what was called a "rash protocol". We had to call the front desk upon arrival and they would send a "representative" to escort us to a room via "super secret ninja" back entrance. Bella was very excited to get all the attention and I'm pretty sure she felt like a little mini-spy.
After her examination, the doctor said she is definitely allergic to the antibiotic and can't have it ever again. Apparently it takes a certain number or exposures to show up and it's pretty normal to happen after the 10 days of taking the stuff. The doctor is also "almost certain" that she won't go into anaphylactic shock. I would have preferred her saying "absolutely certain". As of 8:41pm she is fine.
So Bella is in bed, hopped up on Benedryl, although "terribly itchy" (her words) doing just fine. Now that I think about it she has been "itchy" for about 10 days.
